darbar sahib, through the lens of a dukh bhanjani beri sahib visitor
a mural created over the course of eleven weeks between november 2021-january 2022. painted as a commission for a private client in new york, housed in the family’s guru sahib room.
beri sahib, the historical tree you see in this piece, has been around since at least the time of guru ram das ji (the late 1500s) when they were establishing harmandir sahib. it is known to be a place of solace, and the sarovar a place to heal, both physically and mentally. this is where beri sahib gets the name “dukh bhanjani beri sahib” -- the ber tree that relinquishes sorrows.
the vision of this mural was to provide a window, or even a portal, into this exact place that is so spiritually charged and provides such healing, but in the guru’s court across the world.

Harmandir Sahib
mural painted in a client’s home, adorning their children’s playroom. artwork spans the whole wall, over 15 feet wide and 11 feet tall. the clients and the artist worked together to build a vision for this piece. for the clients, having a grand piece that helps ground their children in the love for sikhi while they play, explore, create and build bonds with each other was vital.
during the painting period, the children, both ages 5 and under, joined the creative process.
to give the children and family a feeling over ownership and to build memories around this piece, the kids had fun joining in priming the wall and then painting their own masterpieces. both children’s artwork remains incorporated in the larger, finished piece, and are signed by each young artist. their contributions to the artwork include a part of the sarovar (the pool of ambrosial nectar that surrounds harmandir sahib), and two fish who live their lives submerged in the sarovar of the guru.
